Admitted after public competitive selection at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) in 1995, having served its Board of Executive Directors (2007-2009), he currently serves as General Manager for RD Cooperation (Embrapa Headquarters). Vice-President (2011-2013) and then President (2013-2014) of the Standing Committee on Residues and Chemical Contaminants (SCRCC) of the International Dairy Federation (FIL-IDF, Brussels, BE), being the first and only Brazilian achieving such a position. He is Technical-Scientific Director of the Brazilian Committee of FIL-IDF. Director of the Official Laboratories (Brasília, 2006-2007), and first Director of the Department of Inspection of Plant Food Products (2005-2006), MAPA. He served officially in several Codex alimentarius committees, especially General Principles (CCGP), Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods (CCRVDF), Food Importation and Certification Systems (CCFICS) and Food Hygiene (CCFH). Member of the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Food Safety (US) since 2004, and ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology - JAM (UK), Letters in Applied Microbiology - LAM (UK), FEMS Microbiology Letters Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology (US), and the Brazilian Journal of Microbiology - BJM. He holds an Associate/Technical Degree in Chemistry, emphasis in Food Science and Technology (Federal Technical School of Chemistry, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1985-1988) and a Food Engineering degree (UFV, Minas Gerais, Brazil, 1989-1993). Visiting Scientist under Prof John B Luchansky, at the Food Reasearch Institute/Department of Food Microbiology and Toxicology, University of Wisconsin-Madison (1997). Advanced studies (2000-2004) on the bioenergetics and molecular bases of the stress responses of L. monocytogenes in antimicrobial resistance led to him to M. Phil. and Ph.D. degrees with records of distinction under Prof Thomas J. Montville (Ph.D., MIT, 1979), Montville Laboratory, Dept. of Food Science, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, USA, where he also received the Endel Karmas Award (2003/2004) for excellence. Still under T. J. Montville, he served as Lead Microbiologist in antibioterrorism, aiming at the inactivation of anthrax spores (Department of Homeland Security, FBI, CIA and Rutgers University, USA, 2004). Post doc work at the USDA-ARS-ERRC (2004-2005) focused on predictive modeling of the growth of C. sakazakii in powdered infant formulae in cooperation with the FDA, while translating and adapting the Pathogen Modeling Program (PMP-USDA) into Portuguese for free public use. He also completed training in Marketing (COPPEAD-UFRJ, 1996), Advanced Negotiation and Conflict Management (by Serge Alecian and Dominique Foucher, l'Université de Paris IV Sorbonne et de l'Ecole des Mines de Paris, 2005), and Strategic Public Management (Dom Cabral Foundation, 2007). Previous industry experience includes a Laboratory Analyst position at Brahma Breweries, now INBEV (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1988) and Food Process Engineer and Laboratory Supervisor, CPC International/Best Foods, now Unilever (Minas Gerais, Brazil, 1994). He directed the Laboratory of Quality of Milk of Embrapa Dairy Cattle (2009-2015), and a national project (2008-2013) to strengthen the National Network of Milk Quality Laboratories - RBQL, under a budget of R$ 12m from FINEP. Ad hoc consultant for FINEP, Key Opinion Leader (KOL) in food safety for 3M Company (USA, 2008-2018), and responsible for various international private and public projects. Affiliated to graduate programs of UFV, UFSCar, USP, UFJF, UnB and UFPel. Executive-Secretary of the Corporate RD Portfolio Food: Safety, Nutrition and Health (2013-2018); President of the Dairy RD Portfolio (2020-2024).
