Mini-curriculum
I have been a researcher at Embrapa Vegetables since 1997 and a lecturer at the postgraduate course in Phytopathology at the University of Brasília. Coordinator of 23 research projects with financial support from CNPq, FAP-DF, Embrapa, IFS and Unilever. I was treasurer of the Brazilian Society of Phytopathology and of the Brazilian Society of Virology and I am chair of the study group of viruses of the family Potyviridae of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses. I contributed to the characterization of viruses and studies of viral diversity and viral occurrence, with the identification of 23 new viruses: 12 begomoviruses, 5 potyviruses, 5 in other groups of phytopathogenic viruses and 4 whitefly viruses. Studies were also carried out on viral transmission by vectors, protein expression, plant-virus-vector interaction, plant resistance to viruses, generation of cultivars with resistance to viruses and development of work methodologies. In addition, I worked with viral epidemiology and virus management, with the study of viral dispersion, virus transmission processes and development of management recommendations against viruses in tomato. The most recent research topic focuses on the development of technologies for the management of viruses and vectors using biotechnological, nanotechnological and biological control tools. We want to make available new control technologies to compose integrated pest management strategies for agriculture.
