Carlos Mauricio Soares de Andrade concluded his PhD in Animal Science from Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) in 2004. His thesis was carried out at Embrapa Acre, in Rio Branco-AC, Brazil, evaluating the effect of grazing intensity on the dynamics of mixed pastures involving the legumes Arachis pintoi and Pueraria phaseoloides and the grasses Panicum maximum and Brachiaria brizantha. He is currently class A researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), integrating the research group on Sustainable Animal Production of Embrapa Acre since 2001. Between 2005 and 2008 he was professor of the Master degree course in Agronomy of the Federal University of Acre (UFAC), Brazil, teaching the discipline Pasture and Forage Science. He concluded the supervision of four postdoctoral works and 26 graduate and postgraduate students. His bibliographical production is available in over 200 publications. Collaborate to the protection of one forage cultivar and the registration of four forage cultivars, as well as recommendation of 24 technologies (agricultural practices) for grazing ruminant production. He is leader of the CNPq research group in Sustainable Cattle Production Systems for the Western Brazilian Amazon. The main research works are in the fields of Animal Science and Agronomy, with emphasis on Forage and Pasture Science, focusing on sustainable livestock development in the Amazon Biome. His current research themes are: 1) development of agricultural practices for the recovery of degraded pastures in the Amazon Biome; 2) evaluation of forages under grazing in the Amazon Biome, in support of Embrapa?s breeding programs of forage plants; 3) development of strategies for use of grass-legume pastures for the Amazon Biome; and 4) sustainable intensification of beef cattle production in Amazonia.
