FLÁVIO DE FRANÇA SOUZA is agronomist, graduated by the Faculdade de Agronomia do Médio São Francisco (1996), a master's degree in Botany from the Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco (2000) and a PhD in Genetics and Breeding from the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (2011). Since 2001, he has worked as a researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) and has experience in genetic breeding, with emphasis on the species Citrullus lanatus, Coffea canephora and Malpighia emarginata. He participated in the development of a cowpea cultivar and led the Coffee Genetic Improvement project for the Amazon between 2003 and 2007, having participated in the launch of 10 canephora coffee cultivars. Since 2013, he has led Embrapa's Acerola Genetic Breeding Program.
