Mariana has a degree in Animal Science (1999), a master's degree in Applied Economics from the Federal University of Viçosa (2001) and a PhD in Agricultural Management from Lincoln University, New Zealand (2011). She has been a researcher at EMBRAPA since 2001. She worked at the Strategic Management Secretariat-SGE until 2004 and, from then on, at Embrapa Beef Cattle. She was an Assistant Researcher at the Agribusiness and Economics Research Unit (AERU), Lincoln University, between 2007 and 2008. She works in the field of Rural Economics and Administration, with an emphasis on production systems and costs in beef cattle farming, crop-livestock-forestry integrated systems (CLFS), decision making, adoption and impact of technologies, and farm management, including the development of managerial tools. She is RD substitute director at Embrapa Beef Cattle, the leader of the Research Group on Livestock Production Systems and coordinator of the National Program for Good Agricultural Practices - BPA Beef Cattle, at Embrapa. She is a member of the Management Council of the Environmental Protection Area of Córrego Ceroula/MS, South America representative on the Council of the International Farm Management Association (IFMA) and a Research Council member for the World Farmers' Organization (WFO). She is a reviewer of scientific journals and RD projects, and an international speaker.
