He holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Viçosa (1999), a master's degree in Genetics and Breeding from the Federal University of Viçosa (2001), a specialization in Conservation of Animal Genetic Resources from the University of Córdoba, Spain (2003), a PhD in Genetics and Breeding from the Federal University of Viçosa (2005) and a post-doctorate at USDA/ARS USA (2011). He worked at Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology from 2002 to 2012. From 2013 to 2017, he was a researcher at Embrapa Headquarters - Secretariat of International Relations, Brasília-DF, where he assumed the position of senior researcher of the EMBRAPA LABEX-USA program, in the area of #8203;#8203; Genetic Resources (USDA-ARS, Fort Collins, Colorado, USA). In January 2017, he resumed his activities as a researcher at Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology, Brasília, DF. Since 2018, he has been Coordinator of the Genetic Resources Program at Embrapa and Supervisor of the Animal Genetic Resources Conservation Program. Since 2018, he has been the National Coordinator for Animal Genetic Resources in Brazil at the FAO Genetic Resources Commission, Rome. Since 2024, he has been FAO's National Focal Point for Aquatic Genetic Resources. He has experience in Animal Molecular Genetics, emphasizing Animal Genetic Diversity, Genomics, Conservation of Genetic Resources, Molecular Systematics, and Genetic Management of Populations. Among the species, he focuses on breeds of domestic production animals, such as fish and bees.
