Mini-curriculum

Graduated in Agronomy from the Federal University of Bahia, Master's and PhD in Genetics and Plant Breeding from ESALQ/USP, post-doctorate in Molecular Cytogenetics (ESALQ/USP). She worked as a visiting researcher at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium (2008-2009). She has been a researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura) since 2002, where she supervises the Genetic Resources and Variety Development Center (Nugene). She is a permanent lecturer on the Master's and Doctorate courses in Plant Genetic Resources at the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia. She supervises and co-supervises master's and doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers. As Curator of Embrapa's Banana Germplasm Bank (the largest in Latin America) she participates in thematic groups of MusaNet, which is a global network of stakeholders striving to ensure the long-term conservation and utilization of Musa genetic resources, with a view to implementing the Global Strategy for the Conservation and Use of Musa Genetic Resources. It operates in the banana genetic improvement program, mainly through the application of different plant tissue culture techniques (micropropagation, in vitro embryo cultivation, somatic embryogenesis and cell suspensions, cryopreservation, polyploidy induction, mutagenesis and somaclonal variation) and cytogenetics, seeking to develop technological solutions to meet the demands of the market.
