Has an undergraduate degree in Agronomy (University of Passo Fundo (UPF)/1988), a MSc. and a Ph.D. degree in Agronomy, concentration area Plant Health, in 1994 and 1999, respectively, from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). He was a researcher at the Rio Grande do Sul Rice Institute (IRGA) in the area of phytopathology from 1999 to 2004. Since 2004, he has been a researcher A in the area of Phytopathology at Embrapa Trigo. He was a postdoctoral associate at Wageningen Plant Research, Wageningen, Netherlands, through the Embrapa Labex program from 2009 to 2010. Between 2015 and 2016, he was a visiting scientist at the Department of Phytopathology at Kansas State University, Kansas, USA. He led five projects dealing with the topic of wheat blast linked to the Embrapa Project Management System. He has co-supervised students in postgraduate courses at universities such as UNESP, UFSM, and UFRGS, but the largest number of students have been from the Postgraduate Program in Agronomy at UPF. He is an advisor to undergraduate and postgraduate scholarship holders under agreements between Embrapa Trigo and CNPq and the Arthur Bernardes Foundation (FUNARBE). He has been a member of the Coordination Committee of the Institutional Scientific Initiation Scholarship Program of Embrapa Trigo-CNPq since 2017 (GRANTS PIBIC-QUOTA INSTITUTIONAL). He acts in the Wheat Genetic Breeding Program at Embrapa Trigo providing support on issues related to the selection and evaluation of wheat genotypes resistant to diseases that affect wheat crops, especially wheat blast. He is an ad hoc consultant for at least 10 national and international journals. He is the author or co-author of dozens of scientific articles in national and international journals of great impact and influence, such as Ciência Rural, Tropical Plant Pathology, Plant Disease, Phytopatology, Annual Review of Phytopathology, among others. His articles/works have been cited very frequently, reaching, according to the ResearchGate platform, more than 2,300 citations. He is the coordinator of the Cooperative Trials Network for Resistance to Wheat Spike Blast (RECORBE), an initiative that deals with the execution of standardized tests to evaluate the reaction of Brazilian wheat cultivars to blast under field conditions. He was a CNPq productivity scholarship holder (PQ-2 scholarship holder) under scholarship PQ No. 304795/2017-8, which was made available in CNPq call No. 12/2017 and was valid from March 2018 to February 2021. He has experience in Agronomy, with an emphasis on Phytopathology, working mainly on the following topics: wheat, blast, winter cereal diseases, fungal variability and genetic resistance of plants to biotic diseases. Within the scope of the Embrapa Project Management System, he is the leader of the project Sensitivity of Pyricularia oryzae Triticum do Brasil to carboxamide, strobilurin and triazole fungicides and opportunities for optimizing the chemical management of wheat blast, whose execution began in January 2025.
