Mini-curriculum

I have a bachelor's degree in Geography from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1997). I completed my master's degree (2000) and doctorate (2004) in Agronomy, with a concentration in Soil Science, at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. At the beginning of my professional career, I was a Geography teacher in the public school system of Rio de Janeiro; a substitute teacher of Photointerpretation at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro; and I worked on the technical staff of the Geological Survey of the State of Rio de Janeiro (DRM-RJ). Since 2006, I have been a researcher at Embrapa Solos Rio de Janeiro. I have extensive experience in the environmental area, focusing on the relationship between soil and rural landscapes. My research interests include assessing the sustainability of rural landscapes and food systems, with an emphasis on soil environmental services and their relationship with the multifunctional potential of agriculture. I am leading a project related to the role of agriculture's multifunctionality in mitigating risks from natural disasters. Since April 2024, I have been the Deputy Head of Research and Development at Embrapa Solos. I also have extensive international experience, both in working and/or leading international projects, as well as in experiences abroad, with a postdoctoral degree in the soil quality department of Wageningen University (Netherlands - 2014) and as a visiting researcher for 22 months at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) in Germany (2019/2020). I am a permanent professor in the Postgraduate Program in Territorial Development at UFRRJ, where I teach the subject Environmental Policies and Management. I am currently responsible for the Brazilian chapter of the Ecosystem Services Partnership - ESP (https://www.es-partnership.org/community/regional-chapters/south-america/985-2/) and the elected representative of Latin America to the Steering Committee of the Ecosystem Services Partnership. I also serve as the lead author of a chapter in the IPBES Nature Contributions to People (NCP) report on biodiversity monitoring and the contribution of nature to people. I also work to disseminate content related to sustainable behavior and lifestyles through my Instagram profile @comidaalemdoprato.
