The embryo transfer technique (ET) began to be used in Brazil in the 70's, based initially on in vivo embryo production (by conventional superovulation). The potential of the technique as a tool in the multiplication of superior genotypes or in breeding programs resulted in its rapid assimilation by the productive sector, with a consequent increase of its use in the following decades. In recent years, the development of the in vitro embryo production technology has revolutionized the national ma Status: Completed Start date: Thu Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2009 |
Reproductive biotechnologies, particularly in vitro embryo production, can be useful to improve the milk productivity in Brazil by accelerating the genetic gain and reducing the intervals between generations. Genomic selection associated with reproductive biotechnology may be applied at the embryonic stage to promote the selection of embryos with desirable genetic traits and disposal of those with undesirable traits; consequently, maintenance costs of recipient cows would be reduced and efforts Status: Completed Start date: Sun Jun 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2014 |
The general objective is to develop and adapt methods and protocols that make the preservation of germplasm (gametes and embryos) of different species of domestic animals of economic interest more efficient and safe. To do so, it has five action plans, ranging from the search for animal welfare indicators to estimate seminal quality to advanced transcriptome and proteome techniques to identify molecular changes that affect the response to cryopreservation. They are: PA1 (management), PA2 (animal Status: Completed Start date: Thu Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2015 |
The project was conducted in order to identify and evaluate alternatives to produce genetically modified embryos and, subsequently, genetically modified ruminant animals, by identifying methods or procedures that enable the production of ruminant transgenic embryos in a more efficient way, reducing time and costs. Such procedures, associated with the insertion of genes of interest, may allow the generation of genetically modified animals capable of producing recombinant proteins important for an Status: Completed Start date: Fri Apr 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2011 |
Brazil has several breeds of domestic animals that have been developed from breeds brought by Portuguese colonists at the time of discovery. Over the centuries, these breeds have been subjected to natural selection in environments in which they live to the point of presenting specific characteristics to adapt to these conditions. They are known as “creole", "local" or "naturalized".

The Innovation Network in Animal Reproduction adds skills among the different teams that work in the area of animal breeding biotechnology at Embrapa with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of animal production chains in Brazil. Among the objectives, the following stand out: creation of new technological platforms in this area, transfer of technologies generated by the component projects and consolidation of Embrapa as a reference institution for the formation of public policies related Status: Completed Start date: Thu Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2015 |
What is the cost of producing one liter of milk in Brazil? Any answer between R$ 0.10 and R$ 1.70 is true. But, also, it is not essentially true. This occurs for two major reasons, both resulting from a lack of standardization. The first reason is that there is an immense amount of production systems in Brazil, from the South to the North. Therefore, in Brazil, rural properties are not standardized, as in Europe, the USA, Canada and Oceania. Each farm is a farm. The second reason is that there i Status: Completed Start date: Tue Jul 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2008 |
Concentrated feeds play an important role in milk production, both from the nutritional as the economic aspects, especially for animal production. The behavior of corn and soybean meal prices, for instance, have an important weight in the formation of milk production costs and consequently on the profitability of dairy farming. The current agricultural markets have shown a rise in prices of these grain-based brans. Milk production in Minas Gerais appears as one of the most important activities f Status: Completed Start date: Tue Jul 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2008 |
The TecRede project aims to generate technologies that would, in a short period of time, the development of tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) cultivation in cage systems. The project chose the tambaqui to foment the development of cage fish farming since it is a fish native to Amapá, which has favorable domestic and international market demand, with production absorption capacity. The research network intends to determine the standardization of techniques and production systems based on Good Pr ...Status: Completed Start date: Fri Aug 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2014 |
In recent years, distance learning via the internet has become an important means of professional qualification, especially in Brazil, a country of continental dimensions. Whereas milk production is scattered throughout the national territory, distance learning offers the opportunity to bring information to professionals across the country. To this end, this project included the design, offering and accomplishment of the first distance learning courses of Embrapa Dairy Cattle, namely: "Sampling, ...
