Evalutation of Technological Aspects of Seed Germination and Morphological Aspects of Seedlings Chosen for Reforestation in Oriental Amazon
The state of Pará is slowly adopting practices to modify altered areas by means of reforestation, and the agriculture producers have been requesting seeds and seedlings in order to apply Agro-forest Systems. However, a great obstacle to this program has been the lack of knowledge about seed germination technologies and seedling production, on a commercial scale and with quality standards. To address these deficiencies, this project aims to research native species with potential use in these systems and thus offer alternatives to producers regarding the use of these species. The selected ones are multi-purpose wood producers with great potential use in reforesting and agro-forest systems, chosen by their ecologic traits and which belong to a group of species of initial or intermediate stages of forest succession. The know-how of germination and propagation techniques might contribute to the sustainable use of the region's forest resources through their use in production systems that meet the region's crescent need for wood.
