The Agricultural Innovation Marketplace - MKTPlace, an international technical cooperation initiative coordinated by Embrapa, was selected by the United Nations (UN) as one of the world's 15 most successful technical cooperation activities between emerging countries to sustainably solve development challenges.

On November 02, the marketplace will be presented during the  United Nations Global South-South Development (GSSD) Expo, an event held between October 31 and November 03, in Dubai, in the Arab Emirates. The expo, which has been taking place since 2008, involves more than 25 organizations and 100 United Nations Member States, in addition to private sector and civil society organizations. The GSSD Expo aims at showcasing the initiatives, sharing knowledge and lessons learned, and facilitating the establishment of partnerships and contacts with potential partners and investors. A book detailing the experience with the design and the implementation of the MKTPlace will also be launched during the event.

The MktPlace will be presented by the researchers Francisco Reifschneider, Paulo Eduardo de Melo and Paulo de Camargo Duarte, from Embrapa; Jorge Hernán Chiriboga Pareja, of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA); Oluwole Fatunbi, from the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA); Kristofer Hamel, from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and Margaret Karembu, from the  International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA AfriCenter).

Supported by partners like the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC/MRE), Gates Foundation, the UN's International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Bank, and the British Department for International Development (DFID), the MKTPlace has raised over US$20 million in funding since its inception in 2010. The funds applied in 82  research projects in 13 African countries and 9 Latin American countries have generated results like the exchange of 1,116 genotypes adapted to tropical agriculture; the training of 2,191 people; the development of over 170 technologies, products and services; the elaboration of 129 technical publications; and many others. In Africa, finished projects have already been asked to participate in a second stage, in a larger scale and with higher impact, and six projects are entering a new stage.
