One of the greatest challenges of humanity is to ensure water in sufficient quantity and quality to supply the global demand.
One way to achieve that would be to use economic instruments. An example of this type of compensation is the Payment for Environmental Services (PES).
Currently, Payments for Water Environmental Services Programs are in continuous expansion in the country due to the increasing demand for water and society’s willingness to pay for the services.
This project aims at strengthening the knowledge of Embrapa researchers, considering the advancement of Payments for Water Environmental Services Programs in Brazil. It also stipulates the organization of the information obtained from the work on a Database, the elaboration and validation of support instruments in the selection of intervention areas alongside local stakeholders, as well as the monitoring of Payments for Water Environmental Services Programs in the rural comunity.
Thus, the aim is to insert Embrapa in discussions and actions regarding Payments for Water Environmental Services and to contribute to their development and improvement.
