Embrapa Instrumentation has had the Nanotechnology Laboratory for Agribusiness since 2009, the very first one in the national and international community. LNNA was created with the support of the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications, through the Financier of Studies and Projects (FINEP), in order to boost research in the agricultural sector, ensure its competitiveness, and also enable the development of work between Embrapa facilities and other public research institutions and private sector companies. The only one of its kind, the LNNA center of excellence is designed to develop research projects on various topics, such as nanostructured sensors for water and food quality assessment (Electronic Tongue); biosensors for the diagnosis of animal diseases; nanomaterials in fertilizers; animal drugs, pesticides and agrochemicals with controlled and local release, to avoid undesirable effects and losses; nanocomposites from renewable sources; nanofiber-reinforced biodegradable plastics; edible films for fruit coating, among other research in agribusiness.
