In Situ Conservation of Animal Genetic Resources in Brazil - Large- Sized Species

Enter multiple e-mails separated by comma.

This project's goal is to keep in situ conservation Centers for large size species and continue the base activities of collection, conservation, characterization and interchange of germoplasm, run under the coordination of Oriental Amazon Embrapa in partnership with: four other Embrapa Units (Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology, Mid North, Pantanal and Roraima), universities (UEMA, UNB, UPIS, UFG, UFPA and UFRA), State Research Firms (EPAGRI), breeders' organizations (Brazilian Association of Breeders of Marajoara Horses - ABCCRM, Brazilian Association of Puruca Breeders - ABCRP, Brazilian Association of Breeders of Pantaneiro Horses, Pará's Association of Buffalo Breeders - APCB), and also breeders compromised with the conservation of genetic resources. Conservation Farms will be maintained in order to allow more interaction with the community sector, in which breeders will have direct participation in conservation processes, maintaining and disclosing germoplasms of endangered species. The project is structured in Action Plans (PAs), in which: the management plan will consist of activities that guide the Project, linking all the PAs that compose it. All the PAs have as objective to maintain, document, and enrich the in situ conservation centers, as well as to diagnose the situation of the country's BAG animals. Thus, the project hopes to integrate the teams of genetic resources of Brazil in many work interfaces, and especially, in the use and discussion of applied methods, as well as to increase the variability of the genetic material kept at BGA ( in connection with the ex situ conservation PC), characterize with the use of morphological, morphometric and molecular descriptors, and also to organize databases of the most important naturalized Brazilian species and make them available to partner institutions, breeders, associations and the scientific community.
