The Gravataí System is one of the technologies available for integrated crop-livestock (ICL) systems, specifically in the “second-season cattle” strategy, when forage and livestock are the main activities in the second harvest. It consists of intercropping cowpeas (Vigna unguiculata) with grasses of the Brachiaria genus, such as B. ruziziensis and B. brizantha cvs. BRS Paiaguás and BRS Piatã. The Gravataí System is recommended for Brazilian Cerrado areas, with medium-texture and/or clay soils. It should be used after harvesting the first crop, as a precedent for the following harvest.
