Wheat is an important cultivation option for Central Brazil, both for grain production and for the use of stubble in no-till farming systems. The crop is also important to interrupt the cycle of pests and diseases in the monoculture of legumes, in addition to filling the space imposed by the sanitary break of soybeans and beans. The climate conditions of the Cerrado, with well-defined periods of rain and drought, guarantee a wheat of excellent industrial quality, with yields higher than those of the southern region of the country. In addition, Cerrado wheat reaches a better price in the domestic market, since the harvest takes place in the off-season in Brazil and Argentina, the main wheat supplier country to Brazil. To meet the demand for cultivation of wheat in the Brazilian Cerrado, Embrapa Wheat developed the irrigated wheat cultivar BRS 264. BRS 264 is a cultivar adapted to the Cerrado of Central Brazil and is indicated to be cultivated in the states of MG, MT, DF and GO. Comprising super early cycle, silk emergence in 40 days and maturation in 110 days, it is extremely productive and has excellent acceptance by the industry. It is moderately resistant to lodging and resistant to threshing. The preferred period for sowing runs from April 20 to May 30, under irrigated cultivation. Economic benefit - The economic benefits gained from the adoption of this cultivar are in the increase of yield, in relation to the average yield of the other irrigated cultivars, and in the aggregation of income obtained due to the price paid in the region being higher thanks to the superior quality of this type of grains. Moreover, the cultivar BRS 264 is a super early wheat, which can be harvested about ten days before the others available in the market. Therefore, it is possible to reduce production costs and minimize impacts on the environment by reducing the use of water and electricity from irrigation.
