BRS Formosa has a high yield for industrial use, for the production of flour and starch. It is the only improved variety of cassava in Embrapa that has resistance to bacteriosis and drought tolerance, adapting to regions with semi-arid climate and Caatinga biome. It can be harvested with one or two cycles, but it performs better in terms of root yield and dry matter when harvested in the first cycle. Due to the excellent agronomic performance in other regions, several studies were carried out to expand its recommendation. BRS Formosa showed excellent aptitude for cultivation in the micro-regions of Valença, Jequié and Santo Antônio de Jesus (BA), with a tendency to expand the area. Other competitive advantages are the straight size — which confers aptitude for mechanized planting and greater density of plants — and the ease of harvesting, which favors the pulling up and dropping of the roots.
This technological solution was developed by Embrapa in partnership with other institution(s).
