Set of techniques and recommendation for the rehabilitation of environments that become degraded by onshore oil and natural gas exploration in the Caatinga biome. Such strategies resulted from a long-term study developed in the biome that was initially focused on recovering areas that had been degraded by shale extraction and on recommending species to be used in such recovery. The techniques to rehabilitate degraded areas in semi-arid environments describes in the present solution were developed for areas with extreme levels of degradation, such as mined areas or areas where soil surface layers were removed and covered with landfill material. Therefore, such techniques can be applied to reforestation or environmental restoration of sites that have been sujected to lower levels of impact in the Brazilian semi-arid region, such as areas that had their vegetation be suppressed without significant impacts on the soil.
