Technologies for Stone Fruit Production
Many are the Brazilian regions which cultivate stone fruits (peaches, plums and nectarines), such as the surrounding areas of Pelotas - RS, the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre - RS, the Serra Gaúcha, the states of Santa Catarina, Paraná and São Paulo, passing by the south of Minas Gerais and Campos das Vertentes (Caldas, Poços de Caldas and Barbacena), the colder regions of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo and, recently, in regions of higher altitude in the state of Bahia. In addition to the use of varieties adapted to the climate and soil of a determined region, there should be used management practices which are able to contribute to the production of a great quality fruit, with good preservability, with little use of pesticides, and with production costs which are compatible with the fruit's destination markets. The general goal of this project is to generate technical information that can be applied to the stone fruit productive chain (peaches, nectarines and plums), by means of making available technologies to qualify the orchards, in the hopes of producing great quality fruits and the development of new products, with diversification, economic viability and particularization of the stone fruit production.
