Rio Grande do Sul (RS) has the second highest state production of milk in the Brazilian Federation. Such an activity is widespread throughout the state, involving a significant share of farmers, with great economic and social relevance for generating wealth and income and contributing to the maintenance of a significant share of the state's population in the countryside. RS is located in a region with temperate clime, which has peculiar characteristics of climate, soil, vegetation cover, cattle Status: Completed Start date: Fri Aug 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2014 |
The changes in climate behavior will probably bring changes to the hydrological cycle. As a result, these variations will probably affect crop development, crop production, and water consumption. Status: Completed Start date: Tue Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2013 |
One of the largest livestock problems in Southern Brazil has been the scantiness of varieties of forage species more adapted to this region. In addition, due to global warming and the demand for increased productivity with reduced use of inputs, there is a need of studies on germplasm tolerance to abiotic stresses such as drought, and the evaluation of symbiotic organisms to promote biological nitrogen fixation in grasses. Thus, this project aimed to develop improved populations of some of the m Status: Completed Start date: Sun Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2012 |
The pest aphids Sipha flava and Rhopalosiphum padi have caused significant injuries in elephantgrass and brachiaria swards, respectively. Thus, the objective of this project was to evaluate the bioecology of these pest insects and the predator Chrysoperla externa. The biological aspects of the pests were studied at 12, 16, 20, 24, 28 and 32ºC. Temperatures of 20ºC and 24ºC were more favorable for insect development, and this temperature range is the most appropriate for t ... This component project uses a transversal approach and is responsible for the search and analysis of advanced information technologies (TIs), and their operation in order to perform more efficient simulations that deal with impacts caused by climate change in the country's agriculture. The project is linked to the project "Simulation of Agricultural Future Scenarios from the Regional Climate Change Projections" and will take a look at technology alternatives in a system of high performance paral ... The cultures of castor oil plant, sunflower, cotton, orange, yuca and sugarcane have great importance in many regions of Brazil, and also represent a substantial part of the country's agricultural gross domestic product (GDP). They are cultures that, in most cases, occupy a considerable territorial extension with uniform surfaces, a fact which might cause them to suffer accentuated impacts of the global climate change, and subsequently cause ripple effects in food safety and other important sect Status: Completed Start date: Thu Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2009 |
This component project Is linked to the project "Simulation of Agricultural Future Scenarios from the Regional Climate Change Projections" and uses a transversal and complimentary approach to other component projects, developing economic analysis for current and future sceneries of grain, oilseed, root, fruit, forest and forage cultures. The economic impacts will be evaluated in sector levels, regarding the primary production of various cultures, and detecting the vulnerabilities and necessities ... This project's goal is to evaluate and quantify the impacts caused by global climate changes in Brazilian's most important economic cultures . For such a purpose, the input database of all the models of all the proposed projects will consist of projections or regional scenarios released by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and serve as downscalings of the global climatic scenarios. These regional scenarios will define future agricultural scenarios based in mathematical models Status: Completed Start date: Thu Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2009 |
The project aims at assessing methods and innovative techniques in the area of Remote Sensing and spatial data integration for detection in cultivation practices and production systems, especially integrated crop-livestock-forestry systems (ICLFs) and variations, which constitute one of the key points of the low carbon agriculture policy. The spittlebug, Mahanarva spectabilis, causes two types of injury to forage crops. The nymphs constantly suck the sap, causing the whole plant to yellow. The other type of damage is caused by the adult spittlebug, which feeds on shoot, leaves and sprouts, causing a phytotoxic response that varies among grass species used in pastures. Given the impact of this insect on forage crops, it is important to understand how global changes may influence its ecology and thus assess whether future i ...
