The chestnut PPP Project sought to evaluate aspects related to the productivity of Brazil nuts and Brazil nut trees in the southern region of the state of Amapá. Based on these aspects, subsidies were generated for the formulation of plans for the sustainable use of the species, as well as a management plan for the Rio Cajari Extractive Reserve (RESEX Cajari) was implemented. The Extractive Reserve (Resex) "Forever Green" was created in 2004, in an area of 1,288,717 hectares in Porto de Moz- PA. The families that live in this reserve survive especially of artisan fishing, of subsistence agriculture and of raising domesticated buffalos. This project's main goal is to promote knowledge building in partnership with the extractivist community through research actions to adapt and generate technologies and innovation for the sustainable use of bamboo forests, and diversify production activities in the Chico Mendes Extractivist Reserve with the insertion of bamboo into the production systems of the production units.
