The changes in climate behavior will probably bring changes to the hydrological cycle. As a result, these variations will probably affect crop development, crop production, and water consumption. Status: Completed Start date: Tue Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2013 |
Given the serious agricultural losses suffered by the highland region of the state of Rio de Janeiro due to heavy rainfall in January 2011, this projects aimed at transferring agroecological technologies that have been already developed and adapted to the region through cooperative methodologies that foster interaction between researchers and farmers. It was expected to contribute to counter the environmental and economic risk scenario afflicting family farming in the region; diversify productio Status: Completed Start date: Thu Mar 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2012 |
A geomorphological mapping of the Restinga de Jurubatiba National Park, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, was proposed in this project, to assist in environmental planning, using geotechnologies and geographic information systems. The delimitation of preservation areas such as the Restinga de Jurubatiba National Park aims to maintain the environmental balance of these environments, a necessary measure due to the expansion of urban areas that suppress natural areas. The paper presented a tempora ...Status: Completed Start date: Sat Jun 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2013 |
The gross value of livestock production in Brazil in 2019 was estimated at R$ 213.9 billion. In the ranking of products, in first and second place were beef (R$ 101.5 billion) and milk (R$ 49.8 billion), respectively. Brazil as an exponent in the production of food of animal origin has the health of beef and dairy herds as a strategic asset for the country. In this regard, the existence of national animal health programs is essential for maintaining and improving the health of cattle herds. The fish processing industry consumes a lot of water. This consumption depends on the species being processed, food processing techniques/methods and scale of operation. This project aims to study the water flow in fish industries and to determine the minimum consumption of water required for processing of the main salt-water and freshwater species that are industrialized in Brazil. The strategy is based on three pillars: conscious/rational use of water, better utilization of fish, and use of ...Status: Completed Start date: Tue Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2013 |
Biological control of the cattle tick through entomopathogenic nematodes by cadaver insect technique Improper handling for tick control favors the proliferation of resistant populations. In addition, there is a growing demand for minimum use of chemicals to control pests, in order to preserve the environment and ensure free waste food. In this context, biological control using entomopathogenic nematodes may represent a promising alternative and, therefore, constitute line of research that has been conducted at Embrapa Dairy Cattle. Sugarcane is one of the pillars of the Brazilian agricultural economy. Productivity gains combined with an industrial activity developed for use in the sugar and ethanol production have led researchers to seek agroindustrial management strategies to reduce costs. This project proposes the application of diazotrophic bacteria as a biological input to fully or partially meet sugarcane's nutritional needs with regard to nitrogen. The exploration of milk whey resulting from cheese-making has increased in Brazil due to the setup of industrial units where whey and byproducts are concentrated and dried. However, the volume of whey that is discarded or underused is still extremely high, notably at small dairies. This project aims to survey the volume and quality of the milk whey generated in the largest cheese-producing regions of the country, located in the states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul.
