This research project aims to study organic sugarcane cultivation areas of the Santo Antônio Sugar Mill in Sertãozinho, São Paulo, with emphasis on mapping and characterizing the current status of the vegetation within Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs, from the acronym in Portuguese), for the implementation of an agro-ecological project. The research project should promote an increment to the faunal biodiversity and production systems in such properties, helping the dispersion of seeds along t ... Currently, Brazil is the fourth largest consumer of fertilizers in the entire world; on average, the fertilizers may represent from 25 to 40% of the variable cost of the most important agricultural production systems in the country. One of the main cost variables is the fact that great quantities of applied nutrients via fertilizers are lost through volatilization and leaching. Thusly, methods of nutrient fixation which allow their extended-release in the soil might contribute to a more rational Status: Completed Start date: Sun Nov 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2009 |
This project aims to recover legal reserve areas (ARL) or areas of permanent preservation (APP), in regions of family agriculture at the Brazilian Oriental Amazon, in the hopes of reducing impacts resulted from agricultural and forest practices. The project aims to train at least 150 family farmers in management of natural resources in areas which are close to bodies of water, and also to recover and monitor these areas' environment. The project will be developed in micro-basins of the Bragança, ... Status: Completed Start date: Mon Jun 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2009 |
Sustainability of traditional cultivation systems (slash-and-burn) depends especially on long periods of set-aside in order to reestablish the stock of the soil's nutrients and raw organic material used and/or lost during the agricultural period. Population growth and decrease in the region's secondary vegetation availability has progressively reduced the set-aside period, subsequently increasing the pressure on riparian areas and cultivated ones. The result if degradation of natural resources a Status: Completed Start date: Wed Apr 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2009 |
The goal of this project is to develop an integrated database system for the Department of Vegetal Sanity (DSV), the Secretary of Agriculture and Stockbreeding Defense of the Agriculture, Stockbreeding and Provision (Mapa), hoping to facilitate processes of risk analysis of plagues that attack vegetable products. The vegetable product imports which can be potential spreaders of plagues is normatized by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), which is linked to the Committee of Sani Status: Completed Start date: Thu Apr 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2010 |
The aim of this project was to strengthen the SUSTRURAL array - a set of Embrapa projects related to environmental rehabilitation and compliance in the rural landscape of the Atlantic Rainforest in Southern and Southeastern Brazil - based on deeper integration and training of component members. Heat along with high humidity is one of the causes of impaired milk production and fertility of cattle, especially in the summer or in tropical and semitropical regions. Such problems can be aggravated with the prospect of global warming. In the hottest regions of Brazil there is a preference for crossbred Holstein (H) X zebu (Z), mainly Gir (G) cattle that form the Girolando synthetic breed whose composition is mainly ⅝ GxH. Girolando animals are more tolerant to heat than breeds of European or Status: Completed Start date: Wed Jul 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2015 |
The Cerrado is the second largest Brazilian biome and is considered one of the main biodiversity reserves on the planet that need to be conserved. For a rational and sustainable exploitation of this natural wealth, it is necessary to get to know it beforehand. A possible approach, from the point of view of the elaboration of products from Cerrado plants, is the use of aromatic species to obtain essential oils and extracts for application in the perfume and cosmetic industries. The main goal of t Status: Completed Start date: Sun Feb 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2015 |
Umbu (Spondias tuberosa) and wild passion fruit (Passiflora cincinnata) are native fruits that stand out in the Caatinga biome. These species are consumed as part of dietary habits of the population from the Brazilian Semiarid at the same time that some of them are in endangered risk due to ongoing deforestation and environmental imbalance. Agroindustrialization is an alternative to add value to agricultural production and to complement crops management actions. This project aim ...Status: Completed Start date: Sat Sep 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2012 |
Selection for desirable bovine phenotypes has been practiced since the domestication of cattle, which occurred approximately 10,000 years ago. This process of domestication has brought about a marked change in behavioral and morphological characteristics in the subspecies and, together with the development of breeds and genetic breeding programs, has given rise to the enormous variety of patterns and racial types known today. Since then, traditional breeding tools, based on quantitative theory, Status: Completed Start date: Thu Jan 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2015 |
