The changes in climate behavior will probably bring changes to the hydrological cycle. As a result, these variations will probably affect crop development, crop production, and water consumption.
Therefore, the project’s proposal is to determine the water requirement for irrigation in the current weather and in different future climate scenarios for the cropping of pineapple and coconut in the North, and orange, in the Northwest of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, since those are the cro ...

The soil is of vital importance for the planet. The soil is the main support of agriculture; for climate change, it is one of the regulating elements of the water cycle.
It is in this context that FAO and Embrapa signed an agreement, aimed at the operation of a digital soil mapping for Latin America, as part of the “support for the establishment of the second stage of the Latin American soil system” and whose results and products will be: a) Preparation of a package and program for capacity- ...

The project aims at assessing methods and innovative techniques in the area of Remote Sensing and spatial data integration for detection in cultivation practices and production systems, especially integrated crop-livestock-forestry systems (ICLFs) and variations, which constitute one of the key points of the low carbon agriculture policy.
On a local scale, the goal is to evaluate the potential of new techniques and methodologies that apply to the new Sentinel 2 sensor with regard to the det ...

One of the greatest challenges of humanity is to ensure water in sufficient quantity and quality to supply the global demand.
One way to achieve that would be to use economic instruments. An example of this type of compensation is the Payment for Environmental Services (PES).
Currently, Payments for Water Environmental Services Programs are in continuous expansion in the country due to the increasing demand for water and society’s willingness to pay for the services.
This project aim ...

This project aims to perform the soil and weather zoning potential for corn, sorgum, sugar cane and pineapple in the area under the influence of the Canal das Vertentesl, in the to 1:50.000 scale, searching for the rational use of the natural resources and the agricultural development of the region with sustainability criteria. In 2019 the project was extended, with new areas under influence of the east axis of the transposition of the waters of the São Francisco River, this will be the second p ...

Fine-texture soils in Brazil are generally deemed to have low agricultural potential. Due to low levels of clay and organic matter, they usually present low nutrient and water retention capacity, and, when poorly managed, may produce negative impacts associated with high risks of groundwater contamination by nutrients and other chemical pollutants, or with potential erosion when directly exposed to rain.

In order to guarantee agricultural sustainability in environments associated with t ...

There has been increased interest in the use of techniques to collect and store rainwater in the last few decades, with funding from national and international bodies; however, the general performance of these activities at farmer level is lower than expected, and that relates to the lack of knowledge of the existence and importance of techniques to cope with semiarid conditions.
Considering the social-economic importance of agricultural activities in rain-dependent areas, it is necessary to ...

Spectroscopy, which is always associated with chemometrics, is a versatile technique that is applied in several areas of science. It is fast, non-destructive, low-cost and, in addition, “clean”, requiring few or no reagents. The latter factor aligns the tool with green chemistry.

The current project aims to strengthen a multidisciplinary team that is familiar with spectroscopy, chemometrics, pedology, and soil fertility in order to adapt and incorporate various routine methods used in s ...

Water´s storage and management are a great challenge for the scarce rural population that inhabits the brazilian semiárido. The adoption of hydric social technologies to produce drinkable water for both human and animal and the food production contributed with a better life quality for the region´s families. The underground dam is one of the technologies that has helped many poor families, producing food and giving back their dignity. However, due to the enormous soil diversity in the semiárido, ...
