The goal of the project is to learn the capacity of the current production systems and of alternative technologies focused on carbon accumulation and sequestration in the soil and on reducing (direct or indirect) greenhouse gas - GHG - emissions. Such knowledge is essential for the investigation and foresight of future scenarios and for the planning of public policy to encourage the adoption of global warming mitigation practices. This project comprises the investigation and analysis of grain pr Status: Completed Start date: Sat Sep 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2012 |
Among the essential nutrients, nitrogen (N) is the one with the greatest potential for enhancing forage production. The efficiency of nitrogen uptake is related to the energy supply provided by the photosynthesis. However, recent practices of intensive pasture management have recommended the use of lower post-grazing residues, thus reducing the leaf area of the canopy. The objective of this project was to evaluate the effect of the timing of nitrogen fertilization in association with different d Status: Completed Start date: Fri Aug 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2014 |
Whitefly is currently one of the main pests in Brazil. The insect causes direct damages (sap suction, toxin injection, and physiological disorders) and indirect damages (helping sooty mold grow and transmitting phytopathogenic viruses). Reports of damages started right after its entrance in the country, the likely source of which has been traced to an import of ornamental plants in the 1990s. After this introduction, the insect became very well adapted to Brazilian cropping conditions and spread Status: Completed Start date: Mon Sep 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2014 |
PortGEO brought together several projects and actions developed at Embrapa with a thematic focus on the study and assessment of environmental, socioeconomic and institutional factors associated with the dynamics of land use and cover (causes and effects), as well as their interactions, impacts, products and outcomes. The project was developed to manage and consolidate information from Embrapa's R&D and TT projects within a consolidated structure, in order to organize, make this information avail ... The Cerrado is the second largest Brazilian biome and is considered one of the main biodiversity reserves on the planet that need to be conserved. For a rational and sustainable exploitation of this natural wealth, it is necessary to get to know it beforehand. A possible approach, from the point of view of the elaboration of products from Cerrado plants, is the use of aromatic species to obtain essential oils and extracts for application in the perfume and cosmetic industries. The main goal of t Status: Completed Start date: Sun Feb 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2015 |
Maps, zoning and monitoring resources are examples of geospatial information which are daily used for planning, managing resources, decision making, and for public policies. Geoinformation are of strategic importance for several sectors, including for strengthening Brazilian agriculture and for transferring the knowledge produced by Embrapa to society. To quickly produce, organize and make geospatial services and data available, Embrapa needed an up-to-date, modern data infrastructure, to ena ...Status: Completed Start date: Sun Feb 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2015 |
In dairy livestock systems, heifers are an important component to insure the productive endurance of the herd. Feeding dairy heifers has been based on the use of grass pastures, which undergo degradation process shortly after their establishment. As a result, it has been observed low daily weight gain in heifers. Currently, silvopastoral systems have been suggested as alternative to animal production, in view of their potential benefits such as increased soil fertility, improved forage quality, Status: Completed Start date: Fri Aug 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2014 |
Agroforestry systems (AFS) combine planting trees with agricultural crops or animal husbandry and are considered suitable production systems for the Amazon region because they reconcile agricultural production with the conservation of natural resources, which is a great challenge today. Factors associated with environment and management and those directly related to animals, such as the health of the mammary gland, have major influence on milk quality. In dairy herds, the prevalence of mastitis can easily reach values of 70%, which causes loss of production, alteration in milk composition, increased somatic cell count (SCC) and to a lesser intensity, increased total bacterial count (TBC) in wholesale milk. The objective of the team in this project was to carry out a phase I and Status: Completed Start date: Thu Sep 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2011 |
