This project applied geotechnologies to understand the cause and effect relationships between agricultural activities and greenhouse gas emissions processes, generating subsidies for management decisions that were agronomically and environmentally sustainable. For that, maps of pastures of the national territory were updated and geotechnologies were used to spatialize and monitor natural resources, human activities, and the consequences of these activities on the Earth's surface. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a quarter of the national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions comes from agricultural activities, and 93% of the CH4 emitted originates from enteric fermentation. Despite that, the agriculture practiced within given management standards can result in a lower GHG emissions. The GeoPecus project's goal is the application of geotechnologies for the understanding of the cause and effect relationship between agricultural activities and the Status: Completed Start date: Fri Apr 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2011 |
The project aims at assessing methods and innovative techniques in the area of Remote Sensing and spatial data integration for detection in cultivation practices and production systems, especially integrated crop-livestock-forestry systems (ICLFs) and variations, which constitute one of the key points of the low carbon agriculture policy. The goal is to assess the economic and ecological effectiveness of different models of forest restoration of degraded areas through the induction of secondary ecological succession, by natural regeneration, planting of seedlings, and the direct sowing of native and exotic tree species to compose the Legal Reserve. Environmental systems (SA) have gained great visibility as mechanisms of environmental conservation and improvement of living conditions for rural communities. However, when compared to services of provision of food, fiber and energy, SAs such as carbon sequestration and water conservation are generally put in an inferior level. Given its importance even to the sustainability of agriculture, it is necessary that these SAs move from the sphere of discourse into the sphere of practical realities. The goal of the project is to learn the capacity of the current production systems and of alternative technologies focused on carbon accumulation and sequestration in the soil and on reducing (direct or indirect) greenhouse gas - GHG - emissions. Such knowledge is essential for the investigation and foresight of future scenarios and for the planning of public policy to encourage the adoption of global warming mitigation practices. This project comprises the investigation and analysis of grain pr Status: Completed Start date: Sat Sep 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2012 |
The cultivation of winter forage crops such as Italian ryegrass ( Lolium multiflorum) and velvet grass ( Holcus lanatus) is of extreme importance for increasing the productivity and efficiency of livestock production in the South Region and part of the Southeast Region of Brazil. However, there are few cultivars for use by farmers. The problem focused in this project is the lack of improved cultivars of temperate forage grasses, productive and adapted to the Brazilian conditions. T ... Cotton cropping in Peru is a thousand-year-old activity that goes back to ancient civilizations that developed in that region. Cotton has historically been an important source of resources for the Peruvian population and supplied raw material for the textile industry. They cultivate the long or extra-long fiber species Gossipium hirsutum and G. barbadense. National cotton production has been declining in recent years, with major social impact, as this crop is predominantly cultivated by family f Status: Completed Start date: Wed Jul 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2015 |
The objective of this project is to develop tools and contents for mobile devices, aiming to improve the accessibility of technical content for farmers / workers and support the action of extensionists, promoting innovation in the milk production chain. For this work, the level of literacy, skills and resources available to farmers and extension workers are considered, so that they have access to and can understand the information and technological knowledge, allowing their individual and profes Status: Completed Start date: Tue Mar 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2016 |
