Pasture degradation is one of the main problems of Brazilian cattle farming. Several strategies to recover the productivity of degraded pastures have been developed by Embrapa and other research and education institutions. In such studies, reducing the costs of the recovery of degraded pastures has been one of their main focuses. Integrated crop-livestock systems (ICLS) have proved to be some of the best alternatives to reduce the costs of pasture fertilization. ICLS have potential to increase t Status: Completed Start date: Thu Nov 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2007 |
The national and international demand for ethanol and the increasing concerns with world climatic changes is generating the expectation of an increase in the use of biofuels and consequently an increase in the area planted with sugarcane in Brazil. Brazil is the largest producer and exporter of sugarcane products in the world, and the state of São Paulo has been responsible for nearly half of the national production in the latest years. Among the state's regions, the northeastern portion, whi ...Status: Completed Start date: Thu Nov 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2012 |
River and may represent a methodological advance in the study of models of distribution of species of the ichthyofauna in the Eastern Amazon, in addition to assisting the management of this aquatic ecosystem and water resources, by public agencies. Parasitic diseases can be considered one of the factors that threatens fish populations in a natural environment, since parasites can actively act in the destruction of the communities of these animals, affecting the relative abundance of different ...Status: Completed Start date: Sat Mar 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2014 |
There has been increased interest in the use of techniques to collect and store rainwater in the last few decades, with funding from national and international bodies; however, the general performance of these activities at farmer level is lower than expected, and that relates to the lack of knowledge of the existence and importance of techniques to cope with semiarid conditions. One of the challenges smallholders in Northern Ethiopia face is improving food security in periods of low rainfall supply by identifying strategies to restore soil water stocks. In that region, over 50% of the water available for agriculture is lost due to issues like direct evaporation, surface runoff and deep drainage. The hypothesis is that the use of low cost technologies and intelligent solutions to identify strategies for water resupply and/or water storage in low cost containers like c ...Status: Completed Start date: Sat Aug 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2015 |

Brazil’s sugarcane sector plays an important role in the national economy. The country is the world’s biggest producer of sugarcane and sugar, and second in ethanol production, which contributes positively to the trade balance. In the last 15 years, the crop area has expanded tremendously, occupying so called “expansion” production areas, which differ from the traditional ones mainly in rainfall rates, leading producers to adopt irrigation. Specifically in the Northeast region, crops have migrat Status: Completed Start date: Sun Jun 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2014 |
Some results of practical interest to soil management can be extracted from the soil's water retention curve. The recent validation of the Arya and Paris model for Brazilian soils created excellent opportunities to expand the functionality of the soil granulometric analyzer which is used to obtain in detail the entire particle distribution curve. Since the granulometric analysis takes only 20 minutes, at the same time, through the developed computing implementation, the following results can als Status: Completed Start date: Sun Apr 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2007 |
The main goal of the project is the conception of a new silo with improved air flow to dry newly-harvested corn cobs. Smallholders generally use silos that create strong resistance to room air flow, causing reduced grain quality. Studies indicate that the Venturi effect in drying silos could solve the issue of low air flow in such silos. The incorporation of the Venturi effect will be performed through a conic metal wall structure that will receive the wind on a more open wall. The wind will lea Status: Completed Start date: Wed Jun 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2016 |
The project consists of studying the parasitic communities of fish species such as catfish and scales fish in the Amazon River system. The main points of analysis are the description of these parasitic communities, description of new species and checking whether the size of the host fish has an influence on the abundance of these parasites, their diversity, seasonal variation and their dispersion in the fish. The parasitic communities of different species of fish will be compared, as well as ...Status: Completed Start date: Tue Mar 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2016 |
