In previous projects, Embrapa Dairy cattle developed nanostructured intramammary formulations of mastitis, which show potential therapeutic use in the treatment of bovine keratoconjunctivitis. Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis is a contagious disease that affects the eyes of cattle of all age groups, mainly calves, caused by Moraxella bovis. The disease is rarely fatal, but production losses are high. The costs caused by this disease involve weight loss, falling milk production and Status: Completed Start date: Fri Mar 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2013 |
Vaccination of animals as a method of controlling infectious diseases has been practiced for more than a century with remarkable success. The demand for more effective vaccines tends to grow as an alternative to the use of medicines and as a way to increase animal productivity, contribute to food safety and promote animal and human health. In addition, by minimizing the need for pharmacological interventions, the reduction of drug residues in the environment and in food is favored. As the use of Status: Completed Start date: Wed Feb 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2017 |
Nanotechnology is increasingly allowing the creation of new materials and products whose application is capable of revolutionizing various areas of science. One of the technologies under development today by Embrapa's Nano Network is the controlled release of agricultural inputs. So far there are three controlled release vehicles already developed: (1) a hydrogel made of polyacrylamide (PAAm) reticulated with methylcelullose (MC); (2) chitosan and methacrylic acid nanoparticlesand (3) chitosan a Status: Completed Start date: Wed Jul 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2009 |
Mastitis, a disease that affects dairy herds worldwide and causes huge economic losses to the Brazilian dairy sector has the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria as one of the major etiologic agents. S. aureus is an infectious pathogen, which can be isolated from clinical infections, but is most often associated with chronic and subclinical mastitis, with an augmentation of the somatic cell count (SCC) in milk. This pathogen has several virulence factors, which are important in the bac Status: Completed Start date: Sun Jun 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2014 |
Factors associated with environment and management and those directly related to animals, such as the health of the mammary gland, have major influence on milk quality. In dairy herds, the prevalence of mastitis can easily reach values of 70%, which causes loss of production, alteration in milk composition, increased somatic cell count (SCC) and to a lesser intensity, increased total bacterial count (TBC) in wholesale milk. The objective of the team in this project was to carry out a phase I and Status: Completed Start date: Thu Sep 01 00:00:00 GMT-03:00 2011 |
