BRS Gema de Ovo is a sweet cassava cultivar with valuable characteristics for different regions of Brazil. It has a cream colour pulp, a good concentration of beta-carotene (3.38 μg/g) (vitamin A precursor) and a cooking time that varies from 10 to 20 minutes for roots of 6 to 13 months, respectively.
Originated from the state of Amazonas, BRS Gema de Ovo was initially validated and recommended for the Recôncavo Baiano and Tabuleiros Costeiros regions, with harvests between 8 and 13 months after planting. Using irrigation and fertilization, harvests may be carried out earlier, from six months after planting.
Subsequently, was recommended for the Cerrado and altered forest in the state of Rondônia, showing good adaptation to different climatic and soil conditions. Harvesting is done at 8 to 12 months after planting, when they perform best in terms of yield of commercial roots.
In terms of productivity, it stands out for achieving yields of up to 40 t/ha after 12 months, in Recôncavo Baiano, 20 t/ha in Roraima and 23 t/ha in Rondônia.
