Forests
Through research and the adoption of sustainable forest management, the country has taken large steps to change the traditional and predatory exploration of its forests. In 2013, the trade balance of the planted trees sector presented a US$ 6.4 billion surplus, generating 630,000 direct jobs. The sector's GDP was R$ 56 billion, representing 1.2% of the National GDP. The forest research system, in which Embrapa participates, was responsible for raising Brazil to high productivity levels. We were responsible for the introduction and adaptation of 12 tropical and five temperate eucalyptus species and six tropical pinus species. Modeflora can supply accurate tree locations, relief and hydrography details, and other essential information for good forest management. We have also developed and improved software for forest plantation management to help growers and technicians all over Brazil. Learn more about some of such contributions from agricultural research below.
