Agricultural research is multipurpose. Besides enabling a larger supply of foods, it also contributes to, for instance, making new staple fibers available. Naturally colored cotton is one of the options to have smallholders add value to production. The technology also generates income for the textile industry and contributes to retailers' offering several differentiated clothing and fashion items. Embrapa's special cotton breeding program has been developing cultivars in new color shades, a technology that can generate jobs and income in every stage of the chain.
